A Peek At Our Life

August 30, 2008

Updates

The twins have arrived! Two new beautiful girls now make the tally six girls and three boys... everyone is thrilled!

The Buzz Around Me

Babies are sleeping on my lap, and the rest of the family is working on gutting the bus.

Kitchen Happenings

We're enjoying having all those freezer meals we stocked up on. A frozen casserole and some salad from the garden, and dinner is done. Whew.

In Our Schoolroom

The children are enjoying exploring a new Hebrew computer curriculum. I think the four-year-old knows more than anyone so far.

The Garden View

Brayden Waller planted some beets and collards and greens for me when they were here a couple of weeks ago... they will make a nice fall garden.

In The Sewing Room

I got that new bedspread and bedskirt made to welcome the babies. Now I have to alter some wool diaper covers before the case of disposables I bought runs out.

Home-keeping Agenda

Things are running pretty smoothly, but we're not doing any extra anytime soon.

Simple Joys

That smell of newborn babies. I just can't stop kissing them and breathing in that wonderful scent... none of us can.

Preparing for Twins

I add this link below only because local folks have asked. These are the things that we will be trying to buy before the babies arrive. So, while matching outfits are fun, these things are the priorities for us. (P.S. Anyone who knows me in real life knows that used items are perfectly OK... well...just not the diaper liners. *grin*) I will remove stuff that we have already gotten.

My 2008 Goals

Well...my hopes anyway

~Deliver two healthy new babies safely and not too early.

~Switch to cloth everything...napkins, wipes, diapers, etc.
**Napkins, diapers & wipes done!

~Switch to non-electric kitchen appliances...grain mill, blender, food processor, etc.
**Got the grain mill with the money I made from selling junk stuff on eBay!**

~Learn how to make cold-process soap
**I did it! I really did it! I made Rosemary shampoo bars, Lemon-Calendula soap bars and Spearmint-Peppermint-Tea Tree soap bars. It smells so good in my closet where they are curing!**

~Keep a hand-written journal

~Begin putting our family photos into scrapbooks

~Maintain a "no backlog" policy with my sewing projects

~Purposefully put together an emergency plan and kit for our family with batteries, radio, canned food, clothes, etc. and have it packed and ready to *go*

~Begin building traditions, recipe files, scrapbooks, etc. for our family's celebrations of the Biblical feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles

~Read some fiction for a change!

Tag Schmag

****Post edited ~ drastically. Please read the bottom paragraph.****

I’ve been tagged by Cheri. This is the first time I’ve ever “played” internet tag so this will could be fun. I am to list 7 random facts about myself. Let the record show that had this come from anyone else, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I’m a stick in the mud like that.

1. I was captain of the PowderPuff (girls play, boys are cheerleaders) football teams my Junior and Senior year of highschool…and I didn’t even know how to play football.

2. I’m scared of Holstein cows (and we even have one)…those ladies are HUGE!

3. I cried every single day while Mr. Visionary was away in Israel this Summer.

4. When we got married, I swore I would not be having children.

5. I don’t know how to type.

6. I would give large quantities of cash for a good Reuben sandwich right now.

7. I’m a very good shot with a .45 caliber handgun. Just ask Mr. Raccoon who was after my chickens last year… well, I guess you can’t ask him now.

Game of Blog Tag Rules:
*Link to the person that tagged you.
*Post the rules on your blog.
*Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
*Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
*Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs.

Edited: I have removed the list of folks I tagged out of a sense of guilt. I cringe when these things are going around, and hate the time involved and the frivolousness of it all. (I told you I was a stick in the mud…now you know I wasn’t joking.) I have removed the links so that no one feels pressured to actually do this thing. My apologies to the ladies I “tagged”. Looking back at my day and seeing the amount of time I spent on this one post with no redeeming value makes me cringe. I have repented of ever doing it in the first place, and am making this public confession lest I ever feel tempted to do it again. You may wonder what the big deal is… it is… that I can’t find anything in the Word that would justify my time spent in this activity…however innocent.

Ephesians 5:15-17

15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of YHWH is.

The truth is, I really need to go back and read this post: Blogging Without Obligation.

Oh Dear Julie, you know I’d do anything for you, but I’ve already done this meme - twice, and have run out of random/weird facts about myself. You can find them in my “About Us” category link on my right sidebar where you can read more about me than anyone ever really wants to know.

Sorry I have been away from your place here for a while. I had some health issues in December and I’m still trying to catch up - with EVERYTHING. I see I have a lot of catching up to do.

I saw on your side bar that you are going to be taking/making more Kombuncha for the pregnancy.

i just found out we are expecting again, and I am just curious what else you do when you are pregnant? As far a natural things? I am still REALLY learning in this area…so I thought I’d ask….

Any tips/ideas?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You’re are more than welcome to use my blog post. I don’t mind you using it at all…with or without my name attached, it doesn’t matter, you can’t plagiarize the truth ;-)
I just want the information out there to benefit as many women as possible.
Shabbat Shalom…it sure is a rainy one! :-)

Denise,
I have been wanting to do a refresher for myself on pregnancy health, too. As I have been looking over my notes, I came across a great post by Stephanie, the comment below yours. I will be using her post, and adding a bit, and will answer this question in a post as soon as I can. Hopefully by the end of the weekend (?).

Julie,
I’ve had to be away from the computer more than usual the last few months so I just now read this post. I must say that I truly enjoyed getting a glimpse into the ‘not so serious’ side of you. I so appreciate your sense of duty to honor the Lord in everything you do. It comes through very clearly. But, please don’t feel badly about having tagged people. Getting to know people is sometimes a multi-layered thing and tidbits of info are sometimes more revealing than anything else. :-) Anyway, I love your heart that shines through and I’m also glad you did this tag!

Sunydazy ,

You’re right. A very wise friend said to me about this post,

It’s like building a sandwich…Bread, a little meat, a little cheese, a little mayo for flavoring. Meat is hard to digest if that is all you ever eat. It becomes unpalatable without flavoring, too…so I use that sometimes in blogging. I consider it buffering for the harder things.

It’s good to lighten up a bit sometimes. I think I just took it harder than normal because of my to-do list that day that got so little attention. Truly I could have used anything as an excuse to not get my work done…it wasn’t just the post I did.

It’s just that the blog won’t argue back if I try to blame *it*. Hee Hee

Thanks for the encouragement!
