The Buzz Around Me

Slurping. Folks are munching on watermelon at the table near me. This is the sort of thing you plan before you mop the floor.

Kitchen Happenings

I'm off of meal duty for a few weeks. The kiddos are making all the meals for a while so I have more time to work on extra projects. The Boys have breakfast and lunch duty (think Vitamix for breakfast and leftovers for lunch). The Big Girls (15 and 14) are taking turns making dinners - they cook as well as I do.

In Our Schoolroom

We have decided to take the Summer off of official school work!!!!!!! I am working on lesson plans instead.

The Garden View

I rented out our garden plot to the children. Whatever is growing is completely by their own doing. I am having the benefit of buying from them fresh organic produce, and they are earning back their rent money. All this with no nagging to get help in the garden...what's not to love?

In The Sewing Room

I just learned a groovy new trick for patching jeans! Rip out the outside pants leg seam to patch them, then sew it back up again when the patching is done. The timing is perfect, because Mr. Visionary just gave me some for my mending pile. Sigh. All in due time...

Home-keeping Agenda

I'm using the Summer off school to get things organized again. Closets, clothes, cabinets, nothing is sacred. I feel like I haven't really had decent order since the Twinnage (cute as they are) arrived.

Simple Joys

Mr. Visionary coming home in time for dinner. I had almost forgotten what he looked like in daylight.

My 2010 Goals

Well...my hopes anyway

~Do something with my guitar that's collecting dust...like maybe learn to play it.

~Save up enough money and get the bus ready enough to go to Family Week 2010 with the Wallers.

~Be at least 90% faithful to investing my morning quiet time praying and studying YHWH's Word.

~Do 3 good deeds and right 3 wrongs each week. I got this idea from First Fruits of Zion, and it is such a neat way to keep my focus outside of myself.

~Keep a hand-written journal.

~Be faithful to what we have learned from Dave Ramsey, and use a zero balance budget every month.

~Come up with two small ways to make side income to help my children learn to run a business.

~Begin building traditions, recipe files, scrapbooks, etc. for our family's celebrations of the Biblical feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles.

~Be outside at least some every single day.

~

****Post edited ~ drastically. Please read the bottom paragraph.****

I’ve been tagged by Cheri. This is the first time I’ve ever “played” internet tag so this will could be fun. I am to list 7 random facts about myself. Let the record show that had this come from anyone else, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I’m a stick in the mud like that.

    1. I was captain of the PowderPuff (girls play, boys are cheerleaders) football teams my Junior and Senior year of highschool…and I didn’t even know how to play football.

    2. I’m scared of Holstein cows (and we even have one)…those ladies are HUGE!

    3. I cried every single day while Mr. Visionary was away in Israel this Summer.

    4. When we got married, I swore I would not be having children.

    5. I don’t know how to type.

    6. I would give large quantities of cash for a good Reuben sandwich right now.

    7. I’m a very good shot with a .45 caliber handgun. Just ask Mr. Raccoon who was after my chickens last year… well, I guess you can’t ask him now.

    Game of Blog Tag Rules:
*Link to the person that tagged you.
*Post the rules on your blog.
*Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
*Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
*Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs.

Edited: I have removed the list of folks I tagged out of a sense of guilt. I cringe when these things are going around, and hate the time involved and the frivolousness of it all. (I told you I was a stick in the mud…now you know I wasn’t joking.) I have removed the links so that no one feels pressured to actually do this thing. My apologies to the ladies I “tagged”. Looking back at my day and seeing the amount of time I spent on this one post with no redeeming value makes me cringe. I have repented of ever doing it in the first place, and am making this public confession lest I ever feel tempted to do it again. You may wonder what the big deal is… it is… that I can’t find anything in the Word that would justify my time spent in this activity…however innocent.

    Ephesians 5:15-17

15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of YHWH is.

The truth is, I really need to go back and read this post: Blogging Without Obligation.

Oh Dear Julie, you know I’d do anything for you, but I’ve already done this meme - twice, and have run out of random/weird facts about myself. You can find them in my “About Us” category link on my right sidebar where you can read more about me than anyone ever really wants to know.

Sorry I have been away from your place here for a while. I had some health issues in December and I’m still trying to catch up - with EVERYTHING. I see I have a lot of catching up to do.

I saw on your side bar that you are going to be taking/making more Kombuncha for the pregnancy.

i just found out we are expecting again, and I am just curious what else you do when you are pregnant? As far a natural things? I am still REALLY learning in this area…so I thought I’d ask….

    Any tips/ideas?

    Denise,
I have been wanting to do a refresher for myself on pregnancy health, too. As I have been looking over my notes, I came across a great post by Stephanie, the comment below yours. I will be using her post, and adding a bit, and will answer this question in a post as soon as I can. Hopefully by the end of the weekend (?).

    Julie,
I’ve had to be away from the computer more than usual the last few months so I just now read this post. I must say that I truly enjoyed getting a glimpse into the ‘not so serious’ side of you. I so appreciate your sense of duty to honor the Lord in everything you do. It comes through very clearly. But, please don’t feel badly about having tagged people. Getting to know people is sometimes a multi-layered thing and tidbits of info are sometimes more revealing than anything else. :-) Anyway, I love your heart that shines through and I’m also glad you did this tag!

    Sunydazy ,

You’re right. A very wise friend said to me about this post,

It’s like building a sandwich…Bread, a little meat, a little cheese, a little mayo for flavoring. Meat is hard to digest if that is all you ever eat. It becomes unpalatable without flavoring, too…so I use that sometimes in blogging. I consider it buffering for the harder things.

It’s good to lighten up a bit sometimes. I think I just took it harder than normal because of my to-do list that day that got so little attention. Truly I could have used anything as an excuse to not get my work done…it wasn’t just the post I did.

It’s just that the blog won’t argue back if I try to blame *it*. Hee Hee

    Thanks for the encouragement!
