A Peek At Our Life

June 15, 2008

Updates

I'm now in a season of modified bed rest. For every 2 hours of being up-and-about, I have to be horizontal for 2 hours. Now you know why I haven't been posting! ~wink~

The Buzz Around Me

Dad and the boys hustling through some projects to help make the weekdays easier for us.

Kitchen Happenings

That experiment didn't last long... Mr. Visionary bought me another big fridge courtesy of Craigslist. We don't go to town/shop often enough to live without fridge space.

In Our Schoolroom

School has been rearranged to fit into one of Mom's 2 hour blocks of *down time*. This is neat...I can pay much closer attention to the little ones from here. We set up a small *desk* for them right beside the couch.

The Garden View

The sunbox plants were destroyed by some stray puppies who managed to wiggle in. The garden looks pretty shabby. A few tomato plants, and what's left of the sugar snap peas after the baby goats got into the garden. Sigh. Not everything is easy to manage from the couch.

In The Sewing Room

Can I just say that I am in love? My new sewing machine has changed my life! (At least my sewing life.) I can manage about an hour at a time here and there in my *up time* to finish whittling away at some projects. I know I won't have time to finish them after the babies are here... at least not for a long time.

Home-keeping Agenda

Just the 3D basics: Dishes, Diapers and Duds... and sometimes we clean the bathrooms.

Simple Joys

Forced couch time means more cuddle time with my Littles.

Preparing for Twins

I add this link below only because local folks have asked. These are the things that we will be trying to buy before the babies arrive. So, while matching outfits are fun, these things are the priorities for us. (P.S. Anyone who knows me in real life knows that used items are perfectly OK... well...just not the diaper liners. *grin*) I will remove stuff that we have already gotten.

My 2008 Goals

Well...my hopes anyway

~Deliver two healthy new babies safely and not too early.

~Switch to cloth everything...napkins, wipes, diapers, etc.
**Napkins, diapers & wipes done!

~Switch to non-electric kitchen appliances...grain mill, blender, food processor, etc.
**Got the grain mill with the money I made from selling junk stuff on eBay!**

~Learn how to make cold-process soap
**I did it! I really did it! I made Rosemary shampoo bars, Lemon-Calendula soap bars and Spearmint-Peppermint-Tea Tree soap bars. It smells so good in my closet where they are curing!**

~Keep a hand-written journal

~Begin putting our family photos into scrapbooks

~Maintain a "no backlog" policy with my sewing projects

~Purposefully put together an emergency plan and kit for our family with batteries, radio, canned food, clothes, etc. and have it packed and ready to *go*

~Begin building traditions, recipe files, scrapbooks, etc. for our family's celebrations of the Biblical feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles

~Read some fiction for a change!

Large Families and Twins ~ Part Three

This is Part Three of a series with advice for large families who are expecting twins. You may read Part One Here and Part Two Here.
Some practical thoughts from Susanna:
Don’t put any preparations off! I cannot stress this strongly enough! Start now and feel urgent about it! Do the most physical tasks first […]

Large Families and Twins ~ Part Two

This is Part Two in a series with advice for large families who are expecting twins. You can read Part One Here.
Susanna’s family was arranged like this at the time their twins were born: their other children were Boy 13, Boy 11, Boy 9.5, Girl 7.5, Girl almost 5, and Boy 14 months. Here is […]

Large Families and Twins ~ Part One

Every time a new circumstance occurs in life, I feel compelled to do new research. It is my signature move. Funky worm on the tomato plants? Research. Unidentified stain on the carpet? Research. Illness? Rash? Research. Twins? Research.
My modus operandi regarding the twins phenomenon involved asking (discreetly- as I didn’t want to get flamed!) on […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 14

This was the lesson that really started turning on light bulbs for me. I realize that not everyone has had the same experiences and upbringing as myself, but from where I have come…this lesson struck a nerve. I came from a family who told me that black people had evolved from apes, white people were […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 12

Now that the holidays are over with all the visiting, parties and busyness, I for one am looking forward to settling in to a long winter’s study. We are two lessons away from moving into Section Two - which is the part of this study that shocked me at first, but led to many “Aha!” […]

Prayer List for RTEC Study

I just wanted to update my notes about who is along with us in the study. I don’t mean for it to be a census of any kind, but mostly to update my personal prayer list. I have been praying for the ones that I know of who are joining us in the study, and […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 10

Happy Hanukkah to those who avail themselves of the blessings of observing this holiday! For those who do not, and wonder why a Gentile believer in Yeshua (Jesus) would want to celebrate this holiday, here is a great post by our friend Lisa, entitled “Why Hanukkah?”. In a nutshell, the events leading up to […]

Full Disclosure

Was it the crushing of my laptop last week?
Maybe it was the first bout of sickness that hit my house?
Perhaps it was the switching of the seasonal clothes for seven children, the stocking up on homemade tinctures and salves, our speaking at another church this past week, my listing of 350 items from my house […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 7

“Oh, thank you…I appreciate your mentioning that. But, no Ma’am, we won’t be needing it.”
“Yes sir, they told us that you have a _____ (Children’s ministry/Sunday school/Nursery). Thank you for mentioning it again…if we need it, we’ll let you know.”
There have been times, when visiting churches, that literally four or five people in a […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 6

I’m sure it had to have begun much earlier, but this was certainly a defining moment in my spiritual journey. I know I heard him correctly, for the way this large man bellowed, no one could have missed it. His frankness in asserting that this was his “fifth time getting saved” left me dumbstruck.
His hair […]

Restoring The Early Church ~ Lesson 5

Sorry for the delay! We’re working on a plan that will help with some of the technical difficulties some folks are having with being able to download the lessons. While we get the details worked out, let’s go ahead with the next lesson.
Lesson Five is here.

On Your Mark…Get Set…Pause!

The word on the street is that we need to slow down a bit with our study. Sounds good to me, too. I have gone through the study before, but really, Mr. Visionary and I were so thirsty the first time that we flew through it in a weekend or two. It is richer this […]

Restoring the Early Church ~ Lesson 2

Please note: this post is part two in a study series we are beginning, in which you are welcome to join. You may find part one, the introduction, HERE.
This is a study that made me rethink a lot of beliefs I held tightly but did not own…things I believed because I was told they were […]

From Sick & Tired To Berean…Restoring the Early Church ~ Lesson 1

Sick and tired…all the time…is truly no way to live.
We have become very diligent about being trustworthy stewards of our physical health, in order to keep as far from the sick and tired state as possible. We stay fairly healthy most of the time, but have, for those times we do succumb to the sick […]
